Acer Aspire V3-771G 17'3" a really nice bargain with core i7, 256G SSD +1 TB HDD Bluray

I went onto ebay and bought one for the last year of my University course:

I was trying to decide whether I wanted to pay $200 more for the Toshiba P870 but decided to save for the next notebook and my acer only weights 2.6kg and has slightly better graphics card GT 640 vs the 630 on the Toshiba.

While it is windows 8, it is not touch screen, So I installed the usual stuff ie
Chrome
Firefox
Gadwin Printscreen
Klite Mega codec pack normal and x64 9.75
Videolan VLC Player

I have to mention that internet explorer 10 is actually quite fast but that could be due to the ssd and processor.  The windows experience index was only 5.9 but that was due to the graphics card.

Then I hated not having windows start button so I googled and installed this nice free one called Windows Start Menu Vistart 8 and some nice skins:

Then I updated the Nvidia driver:

Then did windows update.

Overall I really like this notebook.  Not too heavy and great to carry around.  The processor is nice i7 3630 QM 2.4GHZ

what I did not like is that it still has the acer hinge (the part that holds up the monitor screen) ie looks cheap and nasty and very loose, when compared to the alien m17x r4 which has a rock solid hinge


I will try to play some games on it to see if it really can play games tonight lol

Now I am trying to decide if I want office 2013 or an old version of office.   I decided to just use office 2013.
